Yes we did!

I am proud to be an American this morning.

I am thrilled how this election has brought people together, especially here in Urban St. Louis, where "White Flight" and de facto segregation has fractured white and black relations in this city for years. Staking the Obama sign in my front yard has brought me smiles, waves and friendly conversation from all kinds of people here in Urban St. Louis. I've had people talk with me at stop lights because of the bumper sticker on my car. I saw 500 people waiting in line at 6AM to vote, and I saw many old men and women that clearly lived though segregation that voted for a black president.

President Elect Obama said it accurately last night, "This victory is not change, but a chance for change."

I'll accept Obama's challenge to work together to make this a better country for everyone. Young and old, rich and poor, white or black. I have several friends that are Republican, and were voting for McCain. I know that many of their concerns were based on national security, large government, higher taxes, and so forth. To these friends I say this: I hope that this administration works with everyone to come up with the best solution that best serves the most people. I don't want this to be 4 years of "getting back at the republicans for the last 8 years." I really hope that we move forward together, and meet in the middle, not on the left or the right.
